There are many times during the course of our day that we have to wonder what our impact is on those around us. Will the friendly smile that we give someone brighten their day? Can we go above and beyond to help the people we see daily, and more importantly the ones that we don't?
This month an elderly woman by the name of Lillian High came up as missing. She was last seen in a black Dodge Avenger rental car. She is 82, and was still very active. She worked at a local Chase, and interacted with those around her as often as she could. And then one day she vanished. She has been missing since the first part of the month, and all search efforts have so far lead to no new leads.
I say this because as employees of a car dealership we could have sat by, said some good words, and done nothing. Instead, the General Manager of our store assembled a group of salesman to go out and post fliers at numerous local businesses. He didn't ask for recognition for this act, and actually downplayed how large of an act that this was. This is in no small part because he feels that we are a part of our community, and to do an act such as this was the right thing to do. If one of these fliers leads to new information being gained, then the effort was more than worth the results.
Many times we go about our day and stay to ourselves, with only passing interactions with those around us. Instead, let's focus on being a part of the community. Let's be active, and help when we can. Let's make a difference.
